What are the Education Requirements for an Ohio Real Estate License?

  • 20 hours on Real Estate Appraisal

Apply for an Ohio Real Estate Salesperson’s License

Different from other states, it is not possible to take the licensing examination before submitting the application. You should apply to the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing.

Fill in the application form and attach the certificate (or its copy) of completion of pre-licensing courses. Do not forget to include the check for the fee of $81.00.

Broker’s License Application

Ohio broker candidates should submit the application along with transcripts of completed courses. In addition, there is a fee of $135.00. Moreover, performing a background check is mandatory as well.

Background Check

Currently, Ohio requires candidates to have their fingerprints taken and complete a background check. The latter includes a criminal records check of the FBI and state records.

After processing the complete application, the Division sends the information to the testing vendor.

The service costs between $50 and $80. The results are ready within 30 days.

Is the Ohio Real Estate Exam Hard?

The next step in the process is sitting for the state licensing examination. In addition, once the Division reviews the application, they issue a Candidate Information Bulletin, which has instructions for scheduling the test. Actually, the exam is hard but not impossible to pass.

The salesperson’s exam consists of State and National portions. Applicants have 180 minutes to answer 120 multiple-choice questions. The passing score for getting licensed is 70%.

Note: do not forget to bring two valid forms of identification to the exam location. They should bear the applicant’s signature.

How Much Does it Cost to Get an Ohio Real Estate License?

You should be ready to spend about $1,500-$2,000 to get your Ohio real estate license. To elaborate, you will need to spend some money on pre-licensing courses. Their fees depend on the school or college that you choose.
